Will the pressure work?
In response to the recent military coup in Erusia, we have seen all sorts of responses from micronations right across the MicroWiki Community. I don’t intend to comment on the event itself, but make a comment regarding the interesting intermicronational politics and diplomacy being conducted surrounding the event.
We have seen many micronations give their take on the matter; Sandus, St. Charlie, Starland, etc, almost all condemning the move and urging the National Unity Party to cease its takeover and hand power back to the Democratic Party, along with, unfortunately, some threats of “military action”. What remains to be seen, and what will be interesting to witness, will be whether the combined diplomatic pressure of all these micronations will cause events to change and actions taken in Erusia.
If diplomatic pressure does cause a change in Erusia, then it will be one of the few times that this has occurred in the MicroWiki Community. The most recent and bemusing example was the regent of the Kingdom of Starland, who was exiled by his own micronation for 72 hours, following a number of stern diplomatic responses from many micronations. It would also show a change in Erusia also, as the National Unity Party, formerly the Communist Party, did not seem very affected by intermicronational opinion when they were in government.
However, if this vast diplomatic pressure does not have an effect on events in Erusia, Erusia’s reputation in the MicroWiki Community would suffer permanent damage. In the past, although many have disagreed with former Foreign Commissioner, Robert Lethler, he had been respected by most as a diplomat, and many previous events have caused little or no damage to Erusia’s credibility or standing in the community. This unprecedented and almost united response from the MicroWiki Community, however, may cause this to change, for whatever reason.
