A dynasty comes to an end

I would not venture to call it a “dynasty”, but I’m told that the word makes for a better headline, so I’m happy to oblige.

I have been Secretary-General of the Organisation of Active Micronations for most of its existence, since its tumultuous establishment at the end of October last year. I shudder to think what many thought of it privately at that point, in the dark days of ‘YAMO calling’ and public stouches between figures. However, I, and indeed we, have seen the organisation flourish and grow faster than any other organisation that I have a knowledge of. We have obtained an astounding 43 member nations in only five months; a monumental achievement by any micronational standards.

I take little credit for this achievement. The achievements of the OAM have not been due to me, but, as was intended, every active member nations in the Organisation, past and present. It has been The Council that has taken almost every decision regarding the Organisation and its activities, which have been numerous, and I often think how we have passed more resolutions in our first five months than the United Nations would during the same period, a tribute to most of our members’ dedication and hard work.

With the election today of Peter Bralesford as Secretary-General, I can only offer him my full support, now as Vice Secretary-General. I intend, from now on, to take more of a ‘back seat’ to goings on in the Organisation, and allow some fresh talent to occupy the leadership. I’ve had my days as Secretary-General, and I don’t suppose that I’ll be attempting to occupy that position for quite a while.
