Queen Elizabeth II to visit Melbourne

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who arrived in Canberra yesterday, will visit Melbourne on Wednesday 26th October.

She will not spend long in the city also housing A1′s Republic of Acacia, in what is, in all likelihood, one of her last visits to the former British colony.

A1′s Prime Minister, Dame Mars McTavish, and First Secretary, Sir. Philip Fish, will join thousands of people lining a route from the National Gallery of Victoria down to Federation Square in Melbourne as Her Majesty and Prince Philip walk down St. Kilda Rd to greet well-wishers.

Sir. Philip said that this was a once in a lifetime chance to see the Queen.

“I’ve always wanted to see her in person, and as her visits to Australia are both infrequent and do not always include Melbourne, we will be making the most of this opportunity”.

Her Majesty touched down in Canberra yesterday and was greeted by the Australian Prime Minister, Governor-General and other dignitaries, as well as hundreds of schoolchildren and other people who had turned out at the airport to see her.

The visit coincides will a recent poll showing that only 34% of Australians above the age of 14 support the abolition of the monarchy, the lowest since 1990.
