Election Report #1

As competition for the November General Election heats up it has been confirmed that Cooriengahn seats could be in the thick of the action as pressure is placed on both sides to secure their three home seats to stand any chance of forming Government. Already four of the six available seats in the upcoming election, all of those outside of Lichthalzen, have confirmed that they have more than one candidate ready to run, a first in the history of the Federated Republics of A1.

As it stands there are two sides vying for office; the incumbent governing Cirrus Party who go into the election without previous coalition partners the Foundation Party who confirmed this afternoon their intentions to switch to side with the Socialist Party of A1 in a series of open letters, a decision that appears to have been well received by all involved. They are already considered to have the two Lichthalzen seats taken and will seek to secure the Acacia seat currently held by Philip Fish who will face potential competition from up to two, as of yet unnamed, returning citizens. The seat of Willand in Prsänëa will be another key battleground potentially with the incumbent Socialist Party member James Willary likely to face competition from the newly formed Conservative Party of A1 who are likely to either side with the Cirrus Party or play a balance-of-power role should they secure office. Whilst James Willary is considered the stronger candidate some political commentators have suggested that his campaign to become First Secretary could hinder his attempts to hold office in Prsänëa, something he must do to hold onto the Premiership. In Cooriengah the two incumbent Foundation Members will face competition from two independent runners; Hunter Johnson competing against Sam Corby for the Ernest seat in what has been labelled a futile move by most commentators who doubt that Corby will fall. In the Outer Cooriengah seat there is however some strain as popular, if somewhat eccentric, citizen William Sparrow runs against the less popular Chris Pendergast leading to suggestions within the Foundation Party to replace him as their candidate with someone stronger like current Republic Treasurer Chris Corby.

As it stands the alignment of the Conservative Party, Johnson, Sparrow and the potential Acacia candidates are unknown but as election fever heats up its likely that both parties will consider their options with negotiations likely to proceed onwards.
